Home Style Denim Replacement: Bright Cords

Denim Replacement: Bright Cords

by Skinnypurse

With cords back in the fashion mix, there are even more options for casual days. In bright colors and prints, the modern corduroy pant makes a statement without being too over the top. In colors ranging from the brightest red to more muted earth tones, you can find cords to match every mood. Designers are bringing back the trend in everything from skinny, legging cords to wide-leg high-waisters. Paired with a drapey blouse or sweater and you’ve got an easy, every day outfit.

I’ve been a little cord obsessed lately and realized I now own 4 pairs. But like the skinny cargo pant trend that was big for the last few years, skinny cords are an extra-comfortable denim replacement. My favorites:

David Kahn Nikki Stretch Corduroy Ankle Pants Blank Denim Cigarette Vintage Corduroy Pants Gap 1969 Lightweight Corduroy Leggings

David Kahn Jeans is a premium denim line, known for flattering fits, unique washes and high-quality fabrics. The brand graciously sent me a pair of their Nikki Stretch Corduroy Ankle Pants ($178). With a fun brown and black houndstooth pattern and ankle length style, these cords look great with some ankle boots and a simple, draped sweater. I love that they can be dressed up a bit with heels, and they also look a bit preppy when worn with flats. For other pieces in the line, check out the David Kahn Lookbook.

One pair I’ve had my eye on for awhile are the Cigarette Vintage Corduroy Pants ($75) by Blank Denim. Also available here. Cropped and slim-fitting, these echo the bright pant trend. Ever since doing this post I’ve been wanting to pick these up, and so I finally did this week. The rust-tone acts as a neutral, and these can basically be worn with anything. I love this pair with a blousey top or a big cozy cardigan.

Finally, made from super soft cotton/spandex, Gap’s Lightweight Corduroy Leggings ($59.95) are a good legging alternative. Slim through the ankle, they tuck easily into boots. I couldn’t decide on a color so I got them in navy and toasted almond (brown).

What do you think of cords? What styles and colors do you prefer? (Skinny, wide-leg, red, blue, green?)
