Fashion enthusiasts everywhere rejoiced last year over the trendy and socially-acceptable way to dawn loungewear in public. This trend, quickly gained traction from the runway to celebrity collaborations with the top athletic clothing brands. Now, leggings are considered a staple in all womens’ wardrobes, and stretchy material is no longer passé.

At first, the athleisure trend took some by surprise. After years of glorifying pumps as the “it-girl” shoe, now trainers and running shoes became the street style must-have. Students, young adults, mothers, and women of all ages ate up the trend that allowed for comfort, ease, and mobility, all while looking completely fashion-forward and Pinterest-worthy.

So what exactly is this trend? Athleisure is combining what used to be considered “gym” clothing with some staples from your everyday wardrobe. Or, put more simply, it’s wearing your workout clothes in other settings. For example, many athletic wear lovers will pair their best pair of leggings with a denim jacket or a casual trench coat.

Celebrities have been pushing this trend even further, and I have very high doubts that athleisure is going anywhere anytime soon. With new pieces from many different clothing lines being introduced for the holiday season, it’s a safe bet to say that you’ll be wearing your athleisure favorites for many months to come.

Notorious brand names such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, and Puma have all snatched up some of the hottest celebrities for their brands’ public images. Just looking at their newest photoshoots will make you into an athleisure convert in no time!
